5 Years
5 years ago today, January 29th, 2005 I wrote my first blog post on Remote Access.
At the time I remember feeling I was late to blogging. I had been reading blogs since the previous summer when they first crossed my radar and I had taken months to make the decision to start one and jump in. There were relatively few people around who were writing about education. I was reading the blogs of five or six people and was amazed a few posts later to make my first contact with another blogger, getting a comment from a teacher from the UK.
Since than I’ve written 1 062 posts. I’ve lost the exact number of comments since I migrated here to my own URL last summer but I know there are more comments than posts by several hundred. At the time I first began I wasn’t even sure where my focus would lie. I wrote about technology, but also about policy and education law. It wasn’t until several months later that I found a rich vein of edtech bloggers and moved firmly in that direction.
Since I started, I’ve learned more about education than I ever thought possible. I’ve learned about the humanity of the process we try to undertake each day in collaboration with the students in our classrooms and with others around the world. I’ve made plenty of mistakes along the way and tried to honestly share my classroom and my thinking, getting more in return than I could possibly give. In five years I’ve travelled, spoken at conferences, tried to write a book (twice actually and still have gotten almost nowhere), taken pictures, made videos, given keynote presentations and answered hundreds and hundreds of emails from teachers who have been in touch with me about what they are trying out in their own classrooms. I’ve been fortunate enough to get to know people in all corners of the globe.
Thanks for being here with me on my journey. This blog has been one constant for me in my ever changing world.

Congratulations on 5 years, Clarence! Your blog is always an interesting read and one that I recommend to colleagues often! May there be many, many more years of blogging celebrations!!
