It’s Sunday evening. I start another week at school tomorrow.
This weekend, I’ve read newspaper articles on the 3 – D printing of objects and running hyperlocal, customizable, mini manufacturing plants. I watched a TV show about the possibility of the big bang theory being wrong and it really being a big bounce from something that existed before. I’ve read about Maker Faires in Africa and followed uprisings in Syria, Libya and Gaza from people live on ground living through tumultuous times. I’ve watched original videos made using video games as a platform and showed my 13 year old a few tricks on recording audio using audacity and garageband. We also spent some time with Photoshop.
And as I get ready to return to school tomorrow, I wonder how much of this is in our curricula? How many of these skills are kids learning in our buildings?
How many are they having to learn on their own?
